Delphin Systems Provide SDI-12 Sensor Integration

Versatile Data Logger Connects to Enviro Smart Sensors

Delphin Expert Logger with SDI-12 Sensor Integration Delphin Systems now provides SDI-12 Sensor Integration with their Expert Logger DAQ Systems. The SDI-12 interface (Serial Data Interface at 1200 Baud) enables, via a digital signal, the establishment of a connection with multiple “low-power” sensors and a data logger. Sensors can be operated on the bus with asynchronous, serial communication protocols. Such sensors (e.g. for soil moisture, soil temperature, air humidity, water potential, electrical conductivity, etc.) are primarily used in environmental engineering.

Now users can record environmental data using Delphin’s new Expert Logger device to connect to SDI-12 sensors. CAS DataLoggers offers these products for a wide range of applications.

SDI-12: The Smart Sensor Technology

SDI-12 has become the environmental standard of choice for environmental monitoring applications. SDI-12 is a serial-digital interface standard for microprocessor-based sensors and supports many intelligent capabilities such as automated data transfer. SDI-12 also enables automated alarms and time-saving control tasks such as activating a relay.

SDI-12 Benefits:

  • Compact design and easy installation lowers time and cost of deployment;
  • SDI-12 dataloggers can operate unattended on battery power for extended periods;
  • SDI-12 sensors can apply complex calibration algorithms or internal computations;
  • Data loggers can interface with many different sensor types;
  • Smart sensors can be used as RTUs to automatically send data to a desktop PC.

Delphin Expert Logger:

If you need to collect and record data from devices with an SDI-12 interface, CAS DataLoggers has several data logging solutions to meet your needs. The new Delphin Expert Logger is Delphin‘s new generation of data loggers. Based on FPGA technology, it combines the latest communication technology with advanced measurement technology.

Delphin’s SDI-12 interface allows new options for applications especially in the field of environmental engineering. An SDI-12 interface is standard in Model 100 and 200 Expert Loggerdevices; to use the interface, users require a software update including firmware.

Connection to Expert devices takes place via a digital input. The Expert Logger device functions as a master and the sensors as slave devices. Measurement data is processed like internal channels and can be further processed, saved, portrayed and evaluated using software channels.

The Expert Logger can process up to 46 analog input channels at both low and high rates of sampling. Measurement data can be accurately acquired, independently stored and transmitted to the internet or a PC for evaluation via USB, LAN, WLAN or LTE.

Operation made simple:

With the Expert Logger, sensors are connected via plug-in screw terminals and users always have a good overview of the channels despite their high density. Each set of four terminals can be configured as two differential inputs to measure voltage, currents, thermocouples, or to take measurements from a 4-wire RTD.

The Expert Logger is easy to configure from a PC. The device settings are stored internally and can also be read out and stored on a PC and analyzed offline without the need for a connected Expert Logger. Meanwhile the Expert Logger‘s software channels clearly set it apart from other loggers and make it very popular among users.
