Manufacturers across the country are scrambling to prepare for RICE NESHAP, an incoming EPA regulation intended to reduce pollutants from several categories of new, existing and reconstructed stationary engines. The focus is on air toxics, and all applicable diesel and non-diesel engines must be retrofitted with an emission control product to meet the new requirements by 2013. Every diesel engine is affected by this rule in some way, forcing the industry to profile all engines to determine standard levels, install all required devices, and then monitor the refitted engines to ensure they’re compliant and functioning as intended. During the monitoring phase of compliance, dataTaker dataloggers are ideal for monitoring several factors such as engine temperature during operation in diesel engines. For example, under RICE NESHAP, engines over 500 HP must now use a continuous parametric monitoring system (CPMS) to measure pressure drop across the catalyst. Catalyst inlet temperature must also be measured to ensure it stays between 450°-1350°F. Here the dataTaker DT85 is ideal as a single solution, acting as a catalyst monitor to measure both the engine temperature and the pressure drop. Connecting to most sensors and data measurement sources,  the DT85 has the flexibility to monitor nearly any physical value at high accuracy while connecting to a large number of inputs. Measuring RPM and many other factors, the DT85 features 16 to 48 universal analog sensor channels, 12 digital channels, 4 high-speed counter inputs, phase encoder inputs, and programmable serial sensor channels. The datalogger can scale and log almost any physical value including temperature, voltage, current, 4-20mA loops, resistance, strain gauges, frequency, and more.

The DT85 makes 18-bit resolution measurements across a ±30 V input measurement range and is expandable up to 900 analog inputs as needed. A clear built-in display shows all current readings, while the data logger can store up to 10 million data points in user-defined memory and gives users independent control of schedule size and mode to log only as long as needed. Users can choose to archive data on alarm event, copy to USB memory and transfer via FTP, providing data directly to offices over the internet or mobile phone network without the need for polling or specific host software.

These dataTaker dataloggers are famous around the world for their rugged construction enabling them to stand up to rough handling and extreme environments, lasting over years of constant use. Advanced communications capabilities include RS232 with modem support, USB, Ethernet and USB memory stick ports so that users can connect to the DT85 either locally, remotely or over the Internet. Users get a quick start on compliance since dEX has no applications to install, runs directly from a web browser, and can be accessed either locally or remotely anywhere that a TCP/IP connection is available including worldwide over the Internet. Users can view dEX using any of the logger’s built-in communications ports including Ethernet, USB and RS-232.
