Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas and can be toxic even at low levels. The effects of CO exposure can vary greatly from person to person depending on age, health and the concentration and length of exposure. Please note that these carbon monoxide data loggers are NOT suitable as a substitute for a domestic or industrial Carbon Monoxide detector / alarm.

The Carbon Monoxide Data Loggers record CO concentration in units of parts per million (PPM). There are several different models that are designed for different concentration ranges. In the case of residential applications, CO concentrations can range from 0.5 to 5 PPM however, levels near improperly adjusted stoves or other equipment can be 30 ppm or higher.  Carbon Monoxide is also common in industrial settings are a result of incomplete burning of natural gas, gasoline, or from gas or coal fired furnaces and ovens. The current Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) permissible exposure limit (PEL) for carbon monoxide is 50 parts per million (ppm) parts of air as an 8-hour time-weighted average (TWA) concentration.
