Carbon dioxide data loggers are most commonly used for indoor air quality (IAQ) monitoring and other types of environmental monitoring projects. These units also record temperature and humidity and are often used in heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) applications.

The Carbon Dioxide Data Loggers record CO2 concentration in units of parts per million (PPM). There are several different models that are designed for different concentration ranges.  Normal atmospheric carbon dioxide levels are around 400 ppm. Indoors in poorly ventilated spaces, CO2 concentration can reach levels of 3,000 – 4,000 ppm. This range is easily handled by these data loggers. It should be noted that, while not considered lethal below concentrations of 10,000 PPM, high CO2 concentrations can cause lethargy and sleepiness.

There are many sources of carbon dioxide including the burning of any carbon-based material such as wood, coal or gasoline. Carbon dioxide is also a by-product of biological processes such as respiration and fermentation. These loggers are commonly used in many types of manufacturing and industrial processes, in food and beverage production.
